East Haven Girls’ Soccer Wins Divisional Opener Before Losing in Semis; Boys Also Take Semifinal Loss

Girls’ Soccer

The East Haven girls’ soccer team won its first game of the SCC Division B Tournament before taking a loss in the semifinals last week. The Yellowjackets finished the year with an overall record of 5-5-2.

No. 4 seed East Haven started off its SCC bracket by posting a 4-1 home victory versus No. 5 seed Wilbur Cross in a first-round game on Nov. 9. Senior Bella Pilato netted three goals to lead the Easties to the victory. Sophomore Gianna Mendez had a goal with two assists, while sophomore Gabby Gaetano and junior Alex Castro contributed one assist apiece in the victory. The Yellowjackets had a 2-1 lead at halftime and then scored two more goals during the second half to seal the win and advance to the semis.

On Nov. 11, East Haven faced No. 1 seed Guilford on the road for a semifinal contest. The Yellowjackets took a 4-0 loss to Guilford, which went on to win the title by defeating Branford in overtime in the championship.

Boys’ Soccer

The East Haven boys’ soccer squad saw its season come to a close in the semifinals of the SCC Division B Tournament last week. On Nov. 10, the 3rd-seeded Yellowjackets played at No. 2 seed Guilford in the semis and lost the game by a 9-0 score. East Haven posted an overall record of 4-6 on the year.
