Westbrook Field Hockey Plays Old Saybrook to Scoreless Tie; Soccer Teams Take Defeats


Field Hockey

The Westbrook field hockey team played a pair of games last week and wound up with a tie and a loss between the two contests. With these results, the Knights’ record moved to 2-3-2 on the season.

On Oct. 19, Westbrook headed to Old Saybrook to take on the Rams and the two teams played to a scoreless tie. Senior goalie Lauren Horne had an outstanding game in the cage making 16 saves to help preserve the shutout.

On Oct. 23, the Knights took on North Branford and lost a 3-0 home contest against the Thunderbirds. Horne had 10 saves in the loss.

Girls’ Soccer

The Knights had three games on the slate last week and lost all three of them. The losses moved Westbrook’s record to 0-7 on the campaign.

On Oct. 18, Westbrook traveled to East Hampton to battle the Bellringers and dropped a 3-0 road match. Two days later, the Knights hosted Portland and took a 5-0 defeat against the Highlanders.

On Oct. 22, Westbrook played Haddam-Killingworth on the road and lost to the Cougars 7-2. Keeper Alexandra Zanzalari made 15 saves in the loss Sophomore Adrianna Stranieri scored notched a goal in the first half, and freshman Kayla Prisley scored Westbrook’s second goal after halftime.

Boys’ Soccer

The Knights had two contests last week and ended the slate with two losses. The defeats dropped Westbrook’s record to 1-6 on the year.

On Oct. 19, the Knights headed to Portland to take on the Highlanders and took a 4-1 road loss in the match. On Oct. 23, Westbrook lost a 1-0 home contest against Haddam-Killingworth.
