T-Birds’ Field Hockey Posts Three Shutouts

Field Hockey

The North Branford field hockey team continued its winning ways by earning three shutout victories last week. The Thunderbirds improved to 6-0 on the season after posting two shutouts versus Valley Regional and another against Westbrook in recent play.

On Oct. 19, North Branford traveled to Deep River to face Valley Regional and came home with a 5-0 victory. Senior Kelli Jacobson and junior Mia Oliverio both scored two goals for the T-Birds, while junior Olivia Toto also netted a goal. Sophomore Payton Kamienski contributed an assist in the win.

Two days later, North Branford hosted Valley Regional and blanked the Warriors by a 4-0 score. Junior Braeden LeBeau scored a pair of goals with Toto and Oliverio adding one goal apiece for the T-Birds. LeBeau and Jacobson each had an assist in the victory. Senior goalie Sofia Votto made six saves in the cage.

In its final game of the week, North Branford recorded a 3-0 triumph at Westbrook on Oct. 23. Jacobson scored all three of the T-Birds’ goals with Toto assisting on each one of the trio.

Girls’ Cross Country

The T-Birds went to Haddam-Killingworth to race against H-K and Valley Regional on Oct. 22. There were 39 athletes that hit the trails to compete in the meet.

Senior Onna Gott turned in North Branford’s top performance by taking 10th place with a time of 25:25. Carolyn Heffernan followed closely behind, finishing in 12th place with a mark of 25:54. Junior Regan Leete placed 15th in 26:10, while sophomore Sophie Gambardella finished in 16th place by clocking in at 26:21.

Boys’ Cross Country

The North Branford boys’ cross country squad competed against Haddam-Killingworth and Valley Regional at H-K High School on Oct. 20.

Senior Roberto Didiano came in 13th place out of 35 runners by posting a time of 19:54 for North Branford. Freshman Samuel Gott finished 20th with a time of 20:46, while junior Zachary Chittenden placed 25th at 21:56. Senior Conor Leete finished in 34th (25:53), and sophomore Benjamin Taylor came in 35th place (34:28) for the Thunderbirds.

Girls’ Soccer

The T-Birds’ girls’ soccer team lost both of its games last week and is now 1-6 on the year.

North Branford dropped a 5-0 decision to Valley Regional in a home game on Oct. 20. Two days after that, the T-Birds played a road game versus Morgan and were defeated by a 3-0 score.

Boys’ Soccer

The North Branford boys’ soccer squad took two recent defeats to move to 0-8 this season

On Oct. 19, the T-Birds took an 11-0 loss at Valley Regional. Then on Oct. 22, North Branford hosted Morgan and lost to the Huskies by an 8-0 final.
