Morgan’s Soccer Teams See Undefeated Weeks; Field Hockey Shuts Out H-K

Boys’ Soccer

The Morgan boys’ soccer team a pair of games on the slate this week and scored wins in both contests. The two victories moved the Huskies’ record to 5-2 on the season.

On Oct. 19, Morgan hosted Shoreline Conference rival Old Saybrook at the Indian River Complex. Both teams started off pretty well playing an up-and-down game all over the field. Morgan had a solid chance to go up in the first half, but Rams’ goalkeeper Matt Rothman made a good play making the shot go wide. The first half ended with neither team scoring. In the second half, Morgan’s goalie Bailey Goss came up big making some game-saving stops on quality Old Saybrook chances.

In the 63rd minute Sean Cafferty broke through the Rams’ midfield and beat five defenders into the 18-yard box and slotted the ball past Rothman to make the 1-0 final.

On Oct. 22, Morgan headed to North Branford to take on the Thunderbirds. Morgan put on an offensive show with an 8-0 road win. Cafferty posted a hat trick. The first goal came off an assist from Matt Lopez, the second was unassisted, and the third was off a helper from Manny Romero. Max Skidmore notched a pair of goals on assists from Evan Baptista and Justin King. Sebby Kadlof scored a goal off the cross bar on an assist from Aiden Madura. Fabio Silveira and Owen O’Donnell capped off the Huskies’ scoring with a goal apiece assisted by Justin King and Joe Morse respectively. Goss made a pair of save in net.

Girls’ Soccer

The Huskies played a trio of games this week and earned two wins and a tie on the slate. With these results, Morgan’s record moved to 3-1-2 on the campaign.

On Oct. 19, Morgan headed to Portland to take on the Highlanders and the two teams played to a 0-0 draw. Morgan had seven shots on goal while Portland launched 10 shots. Emma Lindsay made five saves to preserve the tie.

The next day, Morgan won a 1-0 road contest against Old Saybrook. Neither team was able to gain an advantage in the first half, but at the 58:30 mark Caeley Ayer scored the game-deciding goal off an assists from Julia Tanner. Morgan outshot the Rams 7-3, and Lindsay made three save in goal.

On Oct. 22, the Huskies hosted North Branford at the Indian River Complex and notched a 3-0 home win. Morgan got the early edge with a goal from Carley Schmidt in the 16th minute off an assist from Genna Rauccio. The first half would end with Morgan up 1-0.

In the second half, Schmidt posted another goal in the 45th minute, this time unassisted. Ayer scored a goal in the 67th minute off an assist from Angelina Comiskey to closed the score sheet for the Huskies. Morgan dominated the shots tally 19-0.

Field Hockey

The Huskies played in two contests last week and came away with a split. With these results Morgan’s record shifted to 2-4 on the season.

On Oct. 20, the Huskies hosted Haddam-Killingworth at the Indian River Complex and scored a lopsided 7-0 win over the Cougars. Alex Wolf provided four goals and an assist, while Nori Lopez had a goal and two assists. Maggie O’Donnell added a goal and an assist, and Sophia Vigorito had a goal. Abbie Gordon only had to make one save in the victory.

On Oct. 23, Morgan was on the road to face Old Saybrook and took a 5-1 loss against the Rams.

Mary Minichino scored the Huskies’ lone goal with an assist from Brooke Carlisle. Gordon had made 19 saves in the loss.

Volleyball

The Huskies had two matches on the schedule last week and lost both of them. Morgan’s record dropped to 1-5 on the season after the two defeats.

On Oct. 20, Morgan headed to Moodus to face Hale-Ray and took a 3-1 loss to the Noises. Hale-Ray took the first set by a 25-11. The Huskies won a hard-fought second set by a score of 30-28, but Hale-Ray took the next two sets by tallies of 25-16 and 25-12.

Two days later, Morgan lost a 3-0 home match against Coginchaug.
