The North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team came away with a win and a tie during last week’s virtual meets. North Haven defeated Hamden and earned a tie versus Mercy to move to 3-2-1 this season.
On Oct. 19, North Haven’s athletes competed at the team’s home site at Walter Gawrych Community Pool. On that same day, the athletes on the team at Hamden competed at its home pool. Mercy’s athletes then hit the water later in the week. When North Haven’s numbers were matched up with those of the Green Dragons and Tigers, Head Coach Martha Phelan’s squad had notched a 96-82 win over Hamden and a 92-92 tie with Mercy.
Sophomore Mikayla Rapuano turned in lifetime-best performances in both the 100 butterfly (1:00.43) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.34) during last week’s action. Junior Giulia Faulkner swam lifetime bests in the 200 freestyle (2:06.87) and 500 freestyle (5:33.27), while senior Maddie Bergin swam a lifetime-best time of 2:12.54 in the 200 individual medley.
Junior El-Lana Coleman finished with a lifetime-best point total of 172.43 in the diving competition for North Haven. Junior Abrielle Osborne recorded a lifetime best in the 100 butterfly (1:08.24) and a season best in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.27). Senior Alyssa Laborde swam lifetime-best times in the 50 freestyle (27.83) and the 100 freestyle (59.62), as did junior Taya Laborde in the 100 freestyle (57.83) and sophomore Makenzie Alogna in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.37).
Field Hockey
The North Haven field hockey team claimed its first victory of the season when it defeated Hamden by a 4-3 score in road game last week. North Haven, which also took a loss to Lauralton Hall, now has a record of 1-5 on the year.
North Haven started off its week by losing an 8-2 decision at Lauralton Hall on Oct. 19.
Then on Oct. 22, Head Coach Kim Bouffard’s squad earned its first win on the campaign with a 4-3 road victory against Hamden. Senior Jannat Butt, senior Marisa Santoemma, senior Mariella Bicleglia, and junior Shea Saracino scored North Haven’s goals in the game.
Boys’ Soccer
The North Haven boys’ soccer squad took the field to square off against Lyman Hall for a home game on Oct. 20. Head Coach Reid Chieffo’s club claimed a 2-1 win over Lyman Hall at North Haven Middle School to improve to 3-2-1 on the season.
Girls’ Volleyball
North Haven split a pair of recent matches to put its record at 4-4 this year. North Haven earned a win over Sheehan and then took a loss to Cheshire in last week’s action.
North Haven claimed a 3-1 road victory against Sheehan on Oct. 19. North Haven took the match with set scores of 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, and 25-14. Junior Hannah Auddino had 28 assists to go with eight aces, three kills, and three digs in the victory. Senior Alex Ferriouolo recorded 20 digs and four kills, junior Caroline Toni posted nine digs with six aces and four kills, and sophomore Emma Liedke had nine kills with three blocks for Head Coach Brianna Kleckner’s squad.
On Oct. 22, North Haven hosted Cheshire and lost by a 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22) score at Fred Kelly Gymnasium. Auddino had 32 assists with five digs, one kill, and one ace; Ferriouolo had 29 digs with two kills, and Toni finished with 12 kills and seven digs for North Haven.
