Valley Volleyball Stays Undefeated; Field Hockey Loses to Old Saybrook

Girls’ Volleyball

The Valley regional girls’ volleyball team played a pair of matches last week and came away from those contests with its undefeated record in tact. With the victories, the Warriors record moved to 4-0 on the year.

On Oct. 13, Valley hosted North Branford and shutout the Thunderbirds with a three-set victory. The Warriors narrowly won the first set with by a score of 25-23, but after that, Valley had big wins of 25-15 and 25-10 in the second and third sets, respectively.

Senior Ava Boyles supplied 19 kills, 9 aces, and 6 digs, while fellow senior Emma counter added 26 assists, 5 aces, and 2 kills. Senior Jamie Pullin had seven kills, three digs, and an ace, and fellow senior Madison Neviaser provided eight receptions, five digs, three kills, and an ace. Junior Salmi Miller notched eight digs, eight receptions, a block, an ace, and a kill, while junior Emi Bisson had seven receptions and six digs.

Two days later, the Warriors went up against Hale-Ray for a rematch of last year’s Shoreline Conference final. Valley came away victorious with a 3-2 victory over the Noises. Hale-Ray took the first set of the match by a score of 25-16, but Valley took the second and third sets with identical scores of 25-19. Hale-Ray tied the contest with a 25-20 fourth set, and the Warriors took the decisive fifth set by a score of 15-12.

Boyles provided 22 kills, 17 digs, 17 receptions, 3 aces, and a block. Counter had 53 digs, 51 receptions, and an ace. Senior Alena Crosby supplied 42 assists, 6 receptions, 2 kills, and an ace. Pullin added nine kills, four aces, and two digs, while Miller had 10 kills and 16 digs. Neviaser notched five kills, a block, and a dig.

Field Hockey

The Warriors had just one game on last week’s slate and took a loss. The defeat moved Valley’s record to 1-1-1 on the season.

On Oct. 15, the Warriors headed to Old Saybrook and took a 3-1 loss against a strong Rams’ squad. Abby Amara scored Valley’s lone goal in the loss.
