North Branford Field Hockey Posts One-Goal Win; Girls’ Soccer Earns First Victory

Field Hockey

The North Branford field hockey team continued its winning ways by defeating Old Saybrook in its lone game of the week. The Thunderbirds hosted Old Saybrook on Oct. 14 and notched a 4-3 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season.

After Old Saybrook scored the first goal of the contest, North Branford stormed back to score three-straight goals off the sticks of senior Kelli Jacobson, junior Olivia Toto, and junior Braeden LeBaeu. The Rams came back with two goals to tie the score at 3-3 heading in the fourth period. Toto netted her second goal of the game with 2:07 left to play to give North Branford the 4-3 win.

Girls’ Soccer

The North Branford girls’ soccer team picked up its first win of the season and also its first win with new Head Coach Doural Scott by defeating Hale-Ray last week. The T-Birds, who also took a defeat to Old Lyme, have a record of 1-4.

On Oct. 17, the Thunderbirds hosted Hale-Ray and claimed a 3-2 victory at North Branford High School. Seniors Ashlee Amendola, Zoe Miller, and Adrianna Lucibello scored North Branford’s goals in the victory.

Earlier in the week, North Branford lost to Old Lyme by a 7-0 score in a road game on Oct. 14.

Boys’ Soccer

The North Branford boys’ soccer squad moved to 0-5 this fall after dropping two recent contests.

North Branford hosted Old Lyme on Oct. 14 and lost by a 6-0 score. The next day, the T-Birds took an 8-0 defeat against Hale-Ray in an away game.

Girls’ Volleyball

The T-Birds’ girls’ volleyball team took a pair of road losses last week and is now 0-4 on the campaign.

On Oct. 13, North Branford took a 3-0 defeat at Valley Regional. Two days later, the T-Birds were on the road to face Morgan and lost to the Huskies by a 3-1 final.

Boys’ Cross Country

Senior Rob Didiano paced his way to a second-place finish among 24 runners when the North Branford boys’ cross country squad faced Old Lyme and Valley Regional in a home meet last week at Totoket Valley Park on Oct. 15.

Didiano finished the race with a time of 19 minutes and 18 seconds on his way to securing runner-up honors for North Branford. Freshman Samuel Gott finished sixth (20:41), junior Zachary Chittenden was 11th (21:30), and sophomore Benjamin Taylor came in 24th place (30:50) on behalf of Head Coach Chelsea Harris’s team.

Girls’ Cross Country

The North Branford girls’ cross country team competed in its third meet of the season when the T-Birds hosted Old Lyme and Valley Regional at Totoket Valley Park on Oct. 15. A total of 19 runners competed at the meet.

Sophomore Carolyn Heffernan led the way for the Thunderbirds by finishing in fourth place with a time of 24 minutes and 46 seconds. Senior Onna Gott finished sixth with a time of 25:12, while junior Regan Leete claimed seventh place at 25:21. Sophomore Sophie Gambardella finished 11th overall by crossing the finish line in 26:17.
