Hand Girls’ Soccer Posts Shutout; Field Hockey Gains a Split

Girls’ Soccer

The Hand girls’ soccer squad defeated East Haven in its lone game of the week to improve to 2-1-1 this year. On Oct. 14, the Tigers hosted East Haven and blanked the Yellowjackets by a 2-0 score at Strong Field.

Junior Maddie Hummel netted both goals for Head Coach Rob McConville’s squad in its victory versus East Haven. The first goal came off a free kick by sophomore Maya Howard, and the second goal was assisted by senior Julia Kuhn. Hand’s defense limited East Haven to six shots on net in the game.

Boys’ Soccer

The Tigers’ boys’ soccer team posted a pair of shutouts at home last week and is now standing with a record of 4-0 on the campaign.

Hand played host to East Haven on Oct. 13 and notched a 7-0 shutout over the Yellowjackets. Three days later, the Tigers defeated Career-Hillhouse by the lopsided margin of 13-0 at Strong Field.

Girls’ Volleyball

The Hand girls’ volleyball team earned its second win of the season by defeating West Haven in recent action. On Oct. 12, the Tigers hit the road to play the Blue Devils and came home with a 3-2 victory to improve to 2-4 this fall.

Field Hockey

The Tigers’ field hockey team split a pair of recent matchups and is now 4-1 on the season. Hand earned a win versus Mercy before taking a loss against Guilford last week.

Hand claimed a 1-0 road win over Mercy on Oct. 12. Senior Erin Patla scored the lone goal of the game on an assist from fellow senior Grace Hartmann during the third period. Junior goalie Megan Hart made five saves in the cage to help the Tigers prevail.

Hand went on to take its first defeat of the season with a 3-1 home loss to Guilford in a rematch of last year’s Class M state final on Oct. 15. Patla scored Hand’s goal on an assist from senior Shea Docker in the third period. Hart made seven saves for Head Coach Sue Leckey’s club.

Girls’ Cross Country

The Hand girls’ cross country squad competed against Sheehan in a road meet on Oct. 14. The Tigers took a 23-32 loss to the Titans at Sheehan High School to move to 4-1 on the year.
