Guilford Girls’ Volleyball Sweeps the Competition; Field Hockey Sees Win Streak Stopped

Girls’ Volleyball

The Guilford girls’ volleyball team continued its hot start to the 2020 season. Head Coach Laura Anastasio’s club is 4-0 on the year after defeating both Hamden and West Haven by 3-0 scores last week.

On Oct. 5, Guilford hosted Hamden and claimed a 3-0 win against the Green Dragons. Three days later, Guilford earned a 3-0 victory over West Haven in another home match. Guilford has won all four of its contests by 4-0 scores thus far this fall.

Field Hockey

The Guilford field hockey team saw its 33-game win streak come to a close with a loss against Cheshire last week. Head Coach Kitty Palmer’s squad now has a record of 2-1 on the campaign.

Guilford took a 3-1 road loss versus Cheshire on Oct. 8. Senior Hannah Tillier scored a goal on assists from sophomore Ella Clarke and Maddie Epke. Senior Eve Young and junior Julia McDonald both saw time in net for Guilford.

Boys’ Soccer

The Guilford boys’ soccer squad stands at 1-2 on the year after splitting a pair of matchups in recent action. Guilford defeated Wilbur Cross before taking a loss against Hand last week.

On Oct. 6, Guilford hit the road to play a game versus Wilbur Cross. Head Coach Curtis Gullette’s squad posted a 3-1 win over the Governors for its first victory of the season.

Three days later, Guilford hosted Hand and dropped a 6-1 decision against the Tigers at Kavanaugh Field. Senior striker Anthony Ippolito scored Guilford’s lone goal of the game.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The Guilford girls’ swimming and diving squad is 2-0 to start the season after defeating Foran and Lyman Hall in a pair of virtual meets.

Guilford earned a 103-67 victory versus Foran on Oct. 1. Then on Oct. 9, Head Coach Jenn Amasino’s club posted a 93-77 win over Lyman Hall. Both of these meets were contested virtually with Guilford swimming at different sites and times than its opposition. In both contests, Guilford’s performances were compared to its opponents in order to determine the scores of the meets.
