Valley Boys’ Soccer, Girls’ Volleyball Off to Strong Starts

Boys Soccer

The Valley Regional boys’ soccer team scored a big win against Hale-Ray in the first game of the season. On Oct. 1, the Warriors earned a 7-1 road victory against the Noises and moved to 1-0 on the season.

Several players got into the scoring action with Ryan Silva scoring three goals to go along with one assist. Michael Kollmer scored a goal, while Jake Burdick scored a goal and supplied an assist. Jake McKenna also scored a goal in the win. Cameron Ruel assisted on two goals while Sam Helsel also had an assist. Ian Silva made 14 saves in net.

Volleyball

The Valley Regional girls’ volleyball team earned a nice win over Old Lyme in the first match of the year. On Oct. 2, the Warriors grabbed a 3-2 win against the Wildcats.

The contest was evenly matched throughout with the Warriors taking the first set 25-22, and Old Lyme grabbing the 25-23 second set. Valley came out on top in the third set with a score of 25-19, but the fourth set went to Old Lyme by a tally of 25-21. In the deciding fifth set, Valley won by a score of 16-14.

Some notable contributions came from Ava Boyles, who had a great game notching 23 kills, 17 digs, and 13 receptions, while Madison Neviaser had a pair of blocked shots, two aces, and nine digs. Jamie Pullin tallied 12 kills, 12 receptions, and 13 digs.
