T-Birds Take to the Trails; Three Other Teams Begin Seasons

Boys’ Cross Country

The North Branford boys’ cross country team took part in its first meet of the season last week. On Oct. 2, the Thunderbirds sent four runners to Clinton to compete against athletes from Morgan and Portland.

Senior Roberto Didiano led the T-Birds by finishing in seventh place at the meet. Freshman Samuel Gott followed in eighth place, while junior Zach Chittenden finished in 13th. Senior Conor Leete came in 19th place for North Branford.

Girls’ Cross Country

Sophomore Carolyn Heffernan finished in fifth place among 36 runners when the T-Birds faced Morgan and Portland in their season opener on Oct. 2.

Heffernan crossed the finish line with a time of 24 minutes and 14 seconds on her way to placing fifth at the meet. Junior Regan Leete finished in 10th place, and senior Sophie Gambardella took 12th place for North Branford.

Girls’ Volleyball

The North Branford girls’ volleyball squad played a home match against East Hampton in its first contest of 2020. On Oct. 1, the Thunderbirds hosted East Hampton and took a 3-1 loss to the Bellringers in their opener.

Girls’ Soccer

The North Branford girls’ soccer team began its campaign by hitting the road to face Cromwell on Oct. 2. The T-Birds dropped a 4-0 decision in the contest. North Branford begins its first year with new Head Coach Doural Scott this fall.

Boys’ Soccer

The T-Birds’ boys’ soccer squad hosted Cromwell for its first game of the fall season last week. North Branford took a 12-0 loss to Panthers in its opening contest.
