East Haven Girls’ Volleyball Wins First Two Matches

The East Haven girls’ volleyball squad started with a pair of victories during the first week of its season. The Yellowjackets earned a 3-0 home win over Whitney Tech and a 3-2 road victory against West Haven to storm out to a 2-0 start to the year.

In its first contest, East Haven defeated Whitney Tech by a 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-13) final in a home match on Oct. 2. Senior outside hitter Tori Heaphy had eight aces with one kill for East Haven, while sophomore outside hitter Adriana Franceschi recorded five kills in the victory. Junior setter Kayla Stefania dished out 20 assists for Head Coach Craig Brown’s club.

On Oct. 3, the Easties traveled to take on West Haven and rallied for a 3-2 victory versus the Blue Devils. East Haven came back from a 2-1 deficit to win the match by the final tally of 25-23, 24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 15-4.

Heaphy had 14 aces, six kills, and seven digs while senior middle blocker Taylor Salato recorded 15 aces to go with seven kills for the Yellowjackets. Senior outside hitter Carly Cordova had 11 kills in the win.
