Maggiore Pitches No-Hitter for North Haven


Anthony Maggiore pitched a no-hitter for the North Haven fall baseball squad when it earned an 8-0 victory over the Connecticut Royals in the second game of a doubleheader on Sept. 26. North Haven took an 8-5 loss in the first game of the set and has a record of 2-4 on the campaign.

After hitting a batter with a pitch during the first inning, Maggiore retired every batter that he faced the rest of the way—16 in a row—on his way to throwing a no-no. In addition to giving up no hits, Maggiore allowed no walks and struck 11 in six innings pitched.

North Haven broke open a scoreless game by plating five runs in the second inning of its 8-0 victory. Maggiore helped his cause by drawing two walks and scoring a run in the win. Antonio Fusco went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, Daniel Boudreau was 1-for-3 with a run scored, Tyler Signore went 1-for-2 with a run, and Spencer Mulligan was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Robert Farrelly walked twice and scored a run, Derek Mortali had a walk with two runs scored, and Ryan Bauman had an RBI for North Haven.

Earlier in the day, North Haven took an 8-5 loss to the Royals in the opening game of the doubleheader. The Royals scored six runs in the second inning to take an 8-3 lead that they held on to for the rest of the game.

Andrew Barbara pitched three scoreless innings of relief, and Tyler Harger tossed one scoreless inning in relief for North Haven. At the plate, Mikey Brandt and Signore both went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run, and a stolen base; Maggiore was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and a stolen base; and Fusco drew two walks to go with a run scored.

During the previous week’s action, North Haven lost both ends of a doubleheader against the Connecticut Wolf Pack by taking an 8-3 defeat in the first game and dropping a 6-5 decision in the nightcap on Sept. 19.

In the first game, Signore went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Harger and Farrelly were both 2-for-3. Maggiore went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run, Mulligan went 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Boudreau was 1-for-3 with a run.

In the second game, North Haven was down 6-3 before scoring two runs in the sixth inning, but was unable to complete the comeback. Harger went 2-for-2 with a walk, a run, and two RBI; Signore was 1-for-3 with a double and a run, and Mulligan drew a walk and scored two runs for North Haven.
