North Haven Fall Baseball Starts with Split

The North Haven fall baseball squad opened its season in the East Shore League by playing a doubleheader against the Boys of Summer team on Sept. 12. North Haven split the set by earning a 5-4 victory in the first game and taking a 3-1 loss in the second contest.

In the first game, North Haven trailed the Boys of Summer by a 4-3 score entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but rallied for a pair of runs in the frame to get the 5-4 walk-off win. Anthony Maggiore hit a single and then stole second base to get the rally started for North Haven. Spencer Mulligan followed with a single to send Maggiore to third.

With runners at the corners, North Haven executed a double steal that saw Mulligan swipe second base while Maggiore stole home on the throw to second to tie the game. After Mulligan stole third base, Antonio Fusco laced a two-out single to left field to bring home Mulligan with the winning run.

Ryan Bauman got the start on the mound and pitched five innings for North Haven. Andrew Barbara picked up the win in relief after tossing a scoreless top half of the sixth inning.

Mulligan went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases to pace the North Haven offense. Fusco went 1-for-2 with two walks, a run, an RBI, and a stolen base; Drew Koval was 1-for-1 with two walks, a run, and an RBI; and Maggiore went 1-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases.

In the second game, Tyler Harger pitched a great game while taking a hard-luck loss in a 3-1 defeat. Harger threw seven innings for North Haven, allowing three unearned runs on two hits and a walk to go with 10 strikeouts.

North Haven scored a run in the top of the second inning when Maggiore singled, stole second base, and scored on a groundout by Derek Mortali. The Boys of Summer came back by plating three runs in the bottom of the third and went on to get the 3-1 victory.
