On Aug. 15, the Madison AAA Blue Jays baseball team rallied from a two-run deficit with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a 5-4 victory over the Rays in the Madison AAA Little League championship game. The win capped off an undefeated season for the Blue Jays, who finished with a record of 12 wins and 2 ties with both ties coming against the Rays.

The championship game was a rematch of an earlier playoff matchup between the Blue Jays and Rays. The game featured two of the top pitchers in the AAA Division in Josh Maynard of the Jays and Nate Kessell of the Rays. Kessell pitched 5.2 innings and struck out 16 batters before being taken out of the game due to pitch count rules. Maynard also turned in an impressive outing by recording eight strikeouts over three innings pitched.

Ultimately, the game came down to the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs, the Jays got four-straight hits from Ashton Hagen, Thomas Cahill, Malcolm Kaiman, and Anthony Pesce. Kaiman later came home to score the winning run on a passed ball.

The victory featured contributions from all of the Blue Jays’ players, including Gabe Seehusen, who went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Cooper Romanchok made a clutch two-out catch in the outfield for the Blue Jays. Michael Ferraiolo also made some key defensive plays, while Chase Potter and Finnbar Berry provided some great at-bats.
