Huskies Close Out Regular Season with Doubleheader Sweep

The Clinton Huskies 16-U AAU East Shore Travel League baseball team played a pair of contests in doubleheader against Run & Gun Baseball to finish out the regular season slate last week. On Aug. 1,

the Huskies took on Run & Gun at the Indian River Complex grabbed blow-out victories of 9-1 and 8-0 in the doubleheader. With these results, Clinton owns a record of 6-8-1 on the year.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Huskies came out of the gate hot, posting a four-spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. Garret Garbinski led off with a single, and Ryan Inglis followed up with a single of his own. Brady Fritz laced a single that drove in Garbinski and Reemsnyder to make it 2-0. After that Ethan Reemsnyder drove in Fritz with an RBI single, and Lucas Kamoen brought Reemsnyder home with a single to make it 4-0.

In the second inning, Spaziano walked with two outs, and Garbinski picked up a base hit to keep the inning alive. Inglis stroked a single to score Spaziano, and Fritz also picked up another base hit, which scored Garbinski to make it 6-0 after two full innings.

In the fourth inning, Ethan Ranaudo reached base with a single, and Spaziano got on base with a single to keep the line moving. Garbinski drove in Ranaudo with a base hit, and after that, Inglis had another hit, which drove in Spaziano to make it 8-0.

Run & Gun got a run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Huskies scored another of their own in the bottom of the frame. Fritz reached base with a single, and Reemsnyder also picked up a single in the inning. Subsequently, Dominic Carpenter got to the plate and roped a double to score Fritz and move the score to 9-1.

When the Huskies led by eight runs after six innings, the game was call on account of the mercy rule.

Kamoen pitched a six-inning complete game for the Huskies, giving up just the single run and striking out seven batters.

In the night cap, the Huskies kept the offensive clinic going in the top of the first. Garbinski walked, and Inglis was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Fritz drove in Garbinski with a single, and Reemsnyder also got a base knock to drive in Inglis for the 2-0 advantage.

In the second, Kamoen reached base on a lead-off single, and Ranaudo walked to put runners at first and second. Kamoen scored on a base hit from Ryan Luciani and move Ranaudo to third base. Ranaudo scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 after two innings.

The Huskies kept it going in the third with a walk from Inglis. Fritz singled to put runners on first and second. A wild pitch advanced runners to second and third. Carpenter reached base on an error and Inglis scored in the process. After that, Declan Christopher smacked a double to score Fritz and Carpenter and make it 7-0.

That score would hold until the top of the six inning when Reemsnyder singled, Carpenter walked, and a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third. Kamoen supplied a base hit which scored Reemsnyder to make it 8-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ranaudo held Run & Gun scoreless for another mercy win after six innings. Ranaudo earned a complete-game win in six innings, and he struck out nine batters.
