North Haven’s U-19 Baseball Team Takes a Few Defeats

The North Haven U-19 baseball squad lost six games last week to finish the regular season with a record of 3-15. North Haven dropped both games in a doubleheader with Wallingford, took two defeats against Hamden, and then lost two contests versus Orange in recent play.

North Haven started its week by taking two losses at Wallingford in a doubleheader on July 25. North Haven lost the first game by a 12-2 final and then took a 9-0 defeat in the second contest at Pat Wall Field.

Derek Novicki went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Devin Santiago was 1-for-2 with a run for North Haven in the opener. Anthony Maggiore had an RBI in the loss.

Maggiore went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in the second game of the doubleheader. Zach Blest pitched 2.1 innings of relief, allowing one run, after which Christopher Tobin threw 0.2 scoreless innings in relief for North Haven.

The following day, North Haven hosted Hamden and was edged out by a 6-5 score at DeMayo Ballfield. North Haven scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead, but Hamden came back with three runs in the second and two runs in the fourth to go up 6-3. North Haven rallied for a run in the fifth inning and another run in the sixth, but was unable to complete the comeback.

Robert Farrelly pitched a scoreless inning of relief, and Tobin tossed two scoreless innings of relief to keep North Haven in the game. At the plate, Santiago went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and two RBI; Maggiore was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, and Novicki was 2-for-3 for North Haven. Chris Hager went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and a stolen base; Blest went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs, and an RBI; and Tobin was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

On July 27, North Haven faced Hamden on the road and lost by a 10-0 score at Legion Field. The day after that, North Haven took an 8-0 home loss against Orange at DeMayo Ballfield. In its last game of the week, North Haven played a road game versus Orange and dropped a 5-2 decision at Brinley Field on July 29.
