07/26/2020 12:00 AMThe Deep River Horseshoe League (DRHL) moved into the latter half of the regular season after completing Week 6 action on July 23. The Pirates are still clinging to a one-game lead for first place after getting a score of 125 from Division A player Kris Toohey, a Westbrook resident, along with a score of 93 from B player Gerald Hines of Higganum and a score of 90 from C player Karen Perna of from Chester.
The Royals retained second place thanks in part to the DRHL's top thrower, Division A player Mark Goodale of Clinton, who turned in a score of 137. Royals' B Player Dave Aldrich of Moodus tallied a score of 90, and C player George Talmadge from Clinton scored an 88. Both the Pirates and the Royals went 4-2 on the week to stay within a game of each other in the standings and create some distance between them and the third-place Rangers, who are three games behind the Royals for second.
Guilford resident Robert "Skip" Robinson, a Division A player who competes for the Tigers, posted a series score of 95 on the week. Fellow Guilford resident Bob Beckwith, also a member of the Tigers, tossed a score of 74.
The Cardinals' A player, Tony Cutone from Essex, had the top score of the week with a mark of 138, beating Goodale's 137 by a single point. Haddam's Mike Zanelli, Sr., who plays for the Dodgers, had a series of 129 for the third-best on the week.
Leading the B Division was the Rangers' Andy Perna, a Chester resident, with a series-high of 118. The Braves' Warren Bellows of Waterford scored the second-highest mark in the B Division with a score of 97. The Yankees' Ted Dubay, who lives in Colchester, scored a 94 for third place.
Among the C players, Karen Perna's score of 90 led the week, while the Mets' Jeremy Davis of Chester was just a point behind her for second with an 89. Talmadge's mark of 88 was good for third place.
The standings after Week 6 have the Pirates in front at a record of 26-10. The Royals are just one game back at 25-11. The Rangers have a narrow edge for third place with a record of 22-14, while the Cubs are in fourth place at 21-15. The Tigers occupy fifth place with a record of 20-16. The Cardinals and the Giants are tied for sixth place at 18.5-17.5.
The rest of the standings are: Mets (18-18), White Sox (18-18), Red Sox (17.5-18.5), Yankees (15.5-20.5), Reds (15-21), Dodgers (15-21), Angels (14-22), Orioles (12-24), and Braves (12-24).
