The Branford Sting girls’ lacrosse squad split a pair of recent matchups in Dream League action. Branford took a loss to Guilford and then defeated Wallingford in its Northern Division contests last week. Head Coach Billy Alessi’s club is now 2-3 overall with a record of 2-2 in divisional play this year.

Branford opened the week by taking a 13-2 road loss against the Guilford Seahawks on July 21. Brianna Shaw scored both goals for the Sting in the contest.

Two days later, Branford earned its second win of the year by claiming a 9-8 road victory over the Wallingford West Side. Shaw and Isla Lionetti both scored three goals for Branford in the game. Lionetti netted the go-ahead goal with 30 seconds left on the clock. Karly King scored two goals, and Molly Pombo added a goal in the win.

Brooke O’Leary and Ellie Galdenzi shared the goalkeeping duties for the Sting. O’Leary made six saves, and Galdenzi made five stops in net, including a save with just three seconds left that cemented the victory for Branford.
