The Deep River Horseshoe League played its second week of the 2020 season on June 25. The Pirates moved into first place in the standings behind a strong some performances across their roster. Kris Toohey, a Division A player from Westbrook, notched a series score of 143 for the Pirates. Division B player Gerald Hines of Higganum and Division C player Karen Perna of Chester each turned in a series of 90 for the Pirates. All three players recorded marks that were top-three series highs on the week and helped the Pirates gained six wins in the standings with an undefeated effort.

Other notable performances on the week included Mark Goodale, a Division A player for the Royals, who recorded a season-high series mark of 165. Division A player Gary Goodrich of the Orioles posted a series of 147, four points ahead of Toohey's top tally on the week.

For the rest of Division B, Dennis Goodrich of the Mets, an Essex resident, scored a series of 107, while the Yankees' Ted Dubay of Colchester turned in a series of 104. Hines's mark of 90 was the third-best score of the week.

The Mets' Jeremy Davis, who lives in Chester, posted the highest series for Division C with a score of 104. Deep River's Scott Allen, Jr., who competes for the Cubs, turned in a series of 101. Perna's score of 90 put him in third place among Division C players.

The standings after Week 2 find the Pirates at the top with their record of 11-1. The Tigers are just one game back at 10-2. The Mets are hanging in third place at 8-4, the Cardinals are right behind at 7.5-4.5, and the fifth-place Orioles have a mark of 7-5.

The rest of the standings are as follows: Giants (6.5-5.5), Red Sox (6.5-5.5), Royals (6-5), Cubs (5.5-6.5), Rangers (5.5-6.5), Yankees (5.5-6.5), Braves (5-7), White Sox (4-8), Dodgers (4-6), Angels, (3-9), and Reds (1-11).

The Deep River Horseshoe League has 16 teams that feature three players of each of the A, B, and C divisions. The league plays every Thursday night on the First Congregational Green in Deep River and welcomes anyone to come watch its contests. For info, visit deepriverhorseshoes.com.
