Pompano Helps Junior Whalers Win League Tourney

East Haven resident Gennaro Pompano helped lead the Connecticut Junior Whalers ice hockey team to the championship in the Atlantic Youth Hockey League this year. Pompano scored five goals to go with six assists during the Whalers’ four-game run through the league championship tournament that took place in Philadelphia on Feb. 29 and March 2. Pompano had a goal and two assists when the Whalers earned a 4-3 overtime victory against the Washington Little Capitals in the title game.

In addition to Pompano, the other members of the team are Blake Baksay from Fairfield, Conrado Calderini of Greenwich, Brandon Chan from Darien, David Disque from Oyster Bay Cove, New York; Natalie Frey-Perusse from Northport, New York; Jake Gagliano of Syosset, New York; Sasha Gelfand of Brookfield, Elliott Lancaster from Darien, Dillon Moneypenny of Darien, Anthony Riina of Ridgefield, Frank Skibo from Greenwich, Niko Tournas of Monroe, Ryan Wempen from Stanford, and Aiden Westphalen of Easton.

The head coach of the Connecticut Junior Whalers is Chis Seifert, and Eric Lind is the team’s assistant coach. Vito Luciano is the owner of the program.
