02/21/2020 11:00 PMThe Gray School of Irish Dance is delighted to announce its results from the New England Regional Irish Dance Championships, known as the New England Oireachtas, which were hosted at the Hartford Convention Center and the Hartford Marriott.
Nathan Belknap from Old Saybrook was crowned as the regional champion for the boys’ U-8 division on behalf of the Gray School. Ronan Curran of Brooklyn finished third in the boys’ U-10 competition, qualifying him to compete in the 50th All World Irish Dance Championships that will be held in Dublin, Ireland in April. Ronan Curran and Tiernan Curran of Brooklyn are both national qualifiers. Gillian Milewski from Lyme, also a national qualifier, is representing the Gray School at the All Ireland Championship in Killarney, Ireland.
The Gray School also fared well in the traditional set competitions at the New England Oireachtas. Top positions were won by Sarah Colangelo from Old Lyme, who placed 10th in the girls’ U-13 division; and Madelynn Katz of Westbrook, who finished 11th in the girls’ U-12 division. Both girls danced the Garden of Daisies.
The Gray School also saw its Ceili teams compete at the championships. The mixed U-10 eight hand Ceili team finished in fifth place. Team members were Hannah Belknap, Nathan Belknap, Grace Callaghan, and Keira O’Donnell from Old Saybrook, Grace Conlan of Essex, Ronan Curran of Brooklyn, and Colleen Harrington from Old Lyme.
The school’s mixed U-10 four hand team took eighth place. That team featured Hannah Belknap, Nathan Belknap, Ronan Curran, and Keira O’Donnell from Old Saybrook.
The girls’ U-15 four hand team finished in 15th place. Team members were Madelynn Katz from Westbrook, Gillian Milewski from Lyme, Anne Colangelo of Old Lyme, and Maggie Rommel from Old Lyme.
