Valley Regional seniors Samantha Calamari and Ava Duval recently received 2019 Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) All-State honors for their performances with the Warriors’ girls’ soccer team last fall. Calamari and Duval were presented with their All-State accolades at the CIAC All-State Banquet that was held at the AquaTurf Club in Southington on Jan. 19.

Calamari and Duval were often referred to as “Peanut Butter and Jelly” because of their connection on offense for the Valley squad. Calamari scored nine goals and had 24 assists for the Warriors, while Duval posted 25 goals with eight assists during the 2019 season.

In addition to making All-State, Calamari and Duval both earned All-Shoreline Conference First Team honors for Valley Regional last season. Calamari was also named Valley’s Most Valuable Player, and Duval was the team’s Offensive Player of the Year. The Warriors finished with a record of 11-7-3 in a campaign that saw the team advance to the Shoreline Conference Tournament final and then win its first-round in the Class M State Tournament.
