Westbrook Girls’ Hoops Tallies Two More Victories; Gallagher and True Compete at States

Girls’ Basketball

The Westbrook girls’ basketball squad played three games as part of last week’s slate. The Knights earned two victories in their three contests to move their record to 6-12 on the season.

On Feb. 10, Westbrook hosted Portland and took a 49-35 home defeat against the Highlanders. Three days later, the Knights were at Hale-Ray where they picked up a 68-42 road victory versus the Noises.

On Feb. 15, Westbrook claimed a 55-29 blowout win on the road versus Norwich Tech. The Knights staked a 20-4 lead after the first quarter and held a 32-16 advantage by halftime. In the third quarter, Westbrook pushed the edge to 51-24 en route to the 55-29 victory.

Jamie Sacco led the Knights in scoring with 35 points in the game. Adriana Straneri added five points, while Xan Zanzalari, Callie Newberg, and Emma Parkhurst each provided four points. Sadie Susi supplied three points.

Girls’ Indoor Track

Elizabeth Gallagher and Mackenzie True represented the Westbrook girls’ indoor track team at the Class S State Championship meet at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Feb. 14.

Gallagher earned 10th place in the 300-meter dash with a time of 44.17 seconds. In the 55-meter dash preliminaries, Gallagher came in 17th place with a time of 7.84 seconds.

True came in 26th place in the long jump with a distance of 13 feet-3.75 inches.
