The Old Saybook boys’ indoor track team claimed a second place finish at the Shoreline Conference Championship Meet at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 8.
Old Saybrook’s top finishes included Jack Colella who took first place in the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.54 seconds. Cooper Luciani claimed a first place finish in the 600 with a time of 1:27.91. Colella earned third place in the 600 with a time of 1:29.57.
Jon Barnes grabbed a first-place finish in the high jump clearing a height of 6 feet. Barnes also earned third place in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.55 seconds.
Cody DeAngelo claimed first place in the pole vault when he cleared 13 feet.
Luke Hanratty, Luciani, Jacob Schneider and Jack Wiley took home first place in the 4x800 releay with a time of 8:47.30. In the 4x400, Hanratty, Colella, Luciani, and Nick Rothman turned in a time of 3:35.17 to earn second place in the event.
Anthony Balinskas snagged a second-place mark in the shotput with a toss of 40 feet-9.5 inches. In the 1,000, Hanratty gained a third-place finish with his time of 2:44.72. Nick Salemi claimed third in the 55 with a time of 7.09.
Girls’ Basketball
Old Saybrook played a pair of games last week and lost both contests on the slate. The defeats dropped Old Saybrook’s record to 2-16 on the season.
On Feb. 4, the Rams hosted Amistad and lost a 63-44 home game.
Two days later, Old Saybrook headed to Old Lyme and lost a 49-35 road contest against the Wildcats. After a Old Lyme posted a 10-5 advantage in the first quarter, the Rams and Wildcats played and even second for a 20-15 score at the half. Old Lyme pulled away with a 20-9 third quarter, and the Rams were only able to close the gap slightly in the fourth before losing by a 49-35 score.
Priscilla Gumkowski led the Rams in scoring with 11, while Jenna Tully provided six points. Lily Cody added five points, while Wendy Bowden and Taylor Cote each had four points.
Boys’ Basketball
The Rams had a single game at home against the top team in the Shoreline Conference, Old Lyme, last week and lost the contest to drop to 0-13 on the year. On Feb. 7, Old Saybrook took a 72-44 loss against the Wildcats. Old Lyme got out to a hot start with a 21-6 first quarter, and the Rams’ deficit grew to 38-16 by halftime. Old Saybrook would not draw any closer the rest of the contest.
Mike Alamada put up an impressive 22 points in the loss. Riley Lawson supplied eight points for the Rams.
