Senior Mackenzie Glenn claimed first place in the long jump for the second-straight year when the North Branford girls’ indoor track team competed at the Shoreline Conference Championship last week. The meet took place at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 8.

Glenn reached a distance of 16 feet-7.5 inches in order to defend her Shoreline title in the long jump. Glenn’s victorious leap was more than foot better than runner-up Audrey Lenda of Valley Regional, who finished with a distance of 15-6.5.

Glenn also teamed up with junior Nadia Becker, freshman Marissa Raffone, and junior Riley Kendall in the 1,600 sprint medley relay at Shorelines. The quartet recorded a time of 4:47.05 to finish in third place.

Junior Onna Gott took third place in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:52.40 for the T-Birds. Kendall finished fourth in the 600 with a 1:53.60. Becker placed fourth in the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash with a mark of 7.86 seconds and then finished seventh for the finals at 7.95.

Freshman Payton Kamienski took 10th place in the 1,000-meter run (3:42.94) and finished 14th in the 600 (2:02.86). Sophomore Regan Leete finished 12th in the 1,600-meter run by running a time of 6:20.77.

The T-Birds’ 4x800 relay team of freshman Carolyn Heffernan, Kamienski, Leete, and freshman Sophie Gambardella posted a time of 1:52.26 to take sixth place.

The Thunderbirds sent a collection of athletes to compete at last week’s Shoreline Conference Championship meet.

Senior Joe DeLucia turned in North Branford’s best performance at Shorelines by taking fourth place in the 600-meter run. DeLucia finished with a time of 1:29.67 on his way to finishing fourth.

Fellow senior Freddie Little finished 13th in the 600 with a time of 1:38.38. He also came in 16th place for the 300-meter dash at 44.74 seconds.

Junior Roberto Didiano took 16th place (5:07.29) in the 1,600-meter run, while sophomore Zachary Chittenden finished in 24th place (5:37.88) for North Branford. Junior Conor Leete ran a time of 3:17.40 to come in 19th place in the 1,000-meter run.

North Branford’s 1,600 sprint medley relay featuring DeLucia, Leete, Little, and Enrique Diaz finished in seventh place with a time of 4:22.96.

North Branford lost three contests last week to move to 8-9 entering the final week of regular-season play.

On Feb. 1, the T-Birds hosted Old Lyme and lost by a 47-21 score. The Wildcats held an 18-8 advantage at halftime and increased their lead to 36-17 through three on their way to the win.

Three days later, North Branford took a 47-22 road loss against Valley Regional. The Warriors took a 30-6 lead into halftime and went on to get the victory. Senior Lily Blomster scored seven points for the T-Birds in the defeat.

Then on Feb. 6, the Thunderbirds dropped a 59-27 decision to Cromwell in another road game. North Branford scored the first four points of the night before the Panthers responded with a 15-0 run to take command of the game. Sophomore Braeden LeBeau scored 16 points to go with 10 rebounds for North Branford.

North Branford lost a pair of home games last week and now has a record of 6-8 on the campaign.

The T-Birds took a 62-31 home loss versus Valley Regional on Feb. 4. Two days later, North Branford hosted Cromwell and lost to the Panthers by an 82-49 final.

The T-Birds took four defeats in last week’s action to move to 0-13-1 on the season.

On Feb. 1, North Branford lost to Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug by an 11-1 score in an SCC/SWC Division II game at Northford Ice Pavilion. Two days later, the T-Birds dropped a 3-2 decision against E.O. Smith-Tolland at the University of Connecticut.

Then on Feb. 5, the Thunderbirds took a 5-1 defeat versus the East Haven co-op squad in a divisional game at Northford Ice Pavilion to move to 0-8-1 in divisional play. Three days after that, North Branford hosted Suffield-Granby-Windsor Locks and lost by a 7-4 score.

The Branford-East Haven-North Branford (B-EH-NB) girls’ ice hockey squad took three home losses in recent action. The Wings have a record of 3-12-1 on the season.

On Feb. 1, B-EH-NB dropped a 4-2 decision to Avon-Southington-RHAM-Newington-Lewis Mills-Wethersfield at Patsy DiLungo Ice Rink. Then on Feb. 5, the Wings hosted Mercy-Northwest Catholic for another non-conference game and took a 5-2 defeat. Three days later, the Wings lost to SCC opponent Guilford by a 4-2 score to move to 1-6 in conference play this year.

The Greater New Haven Warriors (GNH) boys’ swimming and diving squad posted a pair of divisional wins by defeating Hamden and West Haven-Platt Tech in last week’s action. The Warriors improved to 5-2 overall with a record of 3-0 in SCC Division II with the victories.

On Feb. 4, GNH hosted Hamden and prevailed by a 94-80 score at Walter Gawrych Community Pool. Three days later, the Indians claimed a 90-82 road victory against West Haven-Platt Tech at West Haven High School.

Several athletes turned in lifetime-best and season-best performances for the Warriors during last week’s meets. Freshman Joey Gould turned in a lifetime-best in the 500 freestyle (5:39.49) to go with season-best swims in the 50 freestyle (26.67) and 200 freestyle (2:11.23). Sophomore Kyle Borrelli swam a lifetime-best of 56.46 in the 100 freestyle and finished the 50 freestyle with a season-best mark of 25.31. Freshman Aiden Cohen recorded a lifetime best in the 500 freestyle (5:15.77) and a season best for the 100 butterfly (1:01.21) for GNH. Junior Daniel Kamen swam a lifetime-best time in the 100 butterfly (1:07.40), while junior Ray Lewis did the same in the 100 freestyle (1:08.08).

The following athletes recorded season-best times for the Warriors last week: junior Alan Penna in the 100 freestyle (58.61) and 200 freestyle (2:09.65), freshman RT Trotter in the 200 individual medley (2:16.48) and 100 breaststroke (1:18.03), freshman Spencer Carroll for the 100 butterfly (1:05.29) and 100 backstroke (1:04.36), junior David Zhang in the 100 freestyle (57.43), and freshman Lucas Espinosa in the 100 freestyle (59.78).

Also swimming season-best times were sophomore Hethon Foster in the 500 freestyle (5:09.62) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.15), senior Aidan Henry in the 500 freestyle (4:48.42), sophomore Finn Henry in the 500 freestyle (4:48.47), and senior Tanner Powell in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.26).
