Westbrook Boys’ Hoops Rallies to Defeat Old Saybrook

The Westbrook boys’ basketball team played a pair of games last week and split the pair. With these results, the Knights’ record moved to 5-8 on the season.

On Jan. 28, Westbrook hosted Valley Regional and took a 62-48 loss versus the Knights. Valley got out to a 19-13 lead after the first quarter and grew that lead to 33-20 by halftime. Westbrook closed the lead 10 points at 47-37 after three quarters, but the Warriors pulled away to hand Westbrook the 62-48 defeat.

Jack Naccarato scored a game-high 21 points, and Jesse Whitney scored 13 points in the loss. Brenden Engles put up seven points for the Knights.

On Jan. 31, the Knights headed to Old Saybrook and earned a 50-47 win over the Rams. Westbrook took a 13-12 edge at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Old Saybrook tied the game at 21-21 by halftime. The Rams surged ahead to a 38-29 lead after three quarters, but Westbrook came back with a 21-9 fourth quarter en route to the 50-47.

Naccarato had another big game with 23 points, while Engles added 17 points.
