Boys’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook boys’ basketball squad had just one game on the slate last week, and the Rams lost that contest. Old Saybrook faced off at home against Coginchaug and dropped a 58-42 matchup with the Blue Devils on Jan. 16. The loss dropped the Rams’ overall record to 0-7 on the season as they still look for their first win on the year.

Coginchaug mounted an early advantage with a 13-6 first quarter, and extended the lead to 31-10 by the end of the half. The Rams offense got going in the second half as they scored 32 points between the third and fourth quarters, but they were unable to slow down the Blue Devils leading to the 58-42 loss.

Senior captain Mike Almada led Old Saybrook with 11 points, and fellow senior captain Davis Brown scored seven. Shon Ryan scored nine points for the Rams, and Ryan Stratton grabbed six points.

Girls’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook girls’ basketball team played a pair of games last week and lost both of them. The two defeats moved the Rams’ record to 2-8 on the season.

On Jan. 14, the Rams headed to Clinton to do battle with Morgan. Old Saybrook lost the contest by a final score of 47-29. The Rams fell behind early with Morgan posting a 14-5 first quarter, and Old Saybrook was unable to draw any closer as the lead stretched to 10 points at 26-16 at the end of the first half. The Huskies outscored Old Saybrook by eight points in the second half leading to the 47-29 final.

Three days later, the Rams were off to Durham to match up against Coginchaug. Old Saybrook lost a 55-24 road bout against the Blue Devils.
