Westbrook Track Athletes Notch Shoreline Qualifying Times; Girls’ Basketball Takes Two Defeats


Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Westbrook girls’ indoor track team competed at the Shoreline Conference Coaches Invite at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Jan. 11. Elizabeth Gallagher posted her personal record in the 300 meter dash, finishing in eighth place with a time of 45.01 seconds.

Earlier in the week, the Knights competed at the James Barber Invitational at Southern Connecticut State University on Jan. 7. Some competitors scored Shoreline Championship qualifying results at the meet. Brooke Neri (6:26) and Marguerite Bartlett (6:34) qualified for the Shoreline Championships in the 1,600 meter run.

Freshman, Mackenzie True qualified in the 55 meter dash with a time of 8.47 seconds. Mackenzie also added a qualifying jump of 13 feet. Freshman Halley Pierson also qualified in the long jump with a leap of 12 feet-7 inches.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The Knights competed at the James Barber Invitational at Southern Connecticut State University on Jan. 7, and a couple of competitors earned Shoreline Championship meet qualifying times.

Junior Zachary True notched a qualifying leap of 16 feet-0.5 inches in the long jump. Sophomore Gregory Araya also qualified for Shorelines in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:35.19.

Girls’ Basketball

The Westbrook girls’ basketball team played a pair of games last week and lost both contests. On Jan. 7, the Knights lost a 42-35 road match up against Old Saybrook. Three days later, Westbrook dropped a 56-46 road game against Portland. With these results, the Knights’ record fell to 1-8 on the season.
