Rams’ Girls’ Hoops Nets Win Over Westbrook; Boys’ Hoops Loses Two

Girls’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook girls’ basketball team played two games last week and came away with split decisions on the slate. With the win and the loss, the Rams’ record moved to 2-6 on the season.

On Jan. 7, Old Saybrook hosted Westbrook, and the Rams notched a 42-35 win over the Knights. Old Saybrook took a four-point advantage after a 12-8 first quarter, and the Rams maintained that margin at 20-16 by halftime. Old Saybrook extended the lead slightly with an 11-7 third quarter for the 31-23 edge heading into the fourth, and held on for the 42-35 win after the final buzzer.

Priscilla Gumkowski scored 10 points for the Rams, and Taylor Cote had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Holt and Jenna Tully each had five points apiece, while Beldina Feratovic supplied six points, six rebounds, six steals, and six blocks.

Later in the week, the Rams took a narrow 36-35 defeat on the road against St. Bernard.

Boys’ Basketball

The Rams played a pair of contests last week and lost both of them. With these results, Old Saybrook’s record fell to 0-6 on the season.

On Jan. 6, the Rams lost a 66-45 road contest against Shoreline Conference foe Westbrook. The Rams and Knights stayed close with Westbrook taking an18-16 lead in the first quarter. The Knights extended the advantage to 37-28 at halftime. Old Saybrook was never able to get the score closer the rest of the way. Davis Brown scored 11 points for Westbrook, while Mike Almada talied 10 points. Shon Ryan added eight points in the loss.

Then on Jan. 10, Old Saybrook dropped a 72-59 road game against Amistad.
