Hornets’ Boys’ Hoops Beats Lyman Hall; Girls’ Track Competes at Two Meets

Boys’ Basketball

The Branford boys’ basketball team came away with a split of its two games last week to move to 4-3 this winter.

On Jan. 7, Branford took a 61-54 road loss versus Foran. Three nights later, the Hornets hosted Lyman Hall and posted a 60-57 victory versus the Trojans.

Girls’ Basketball

The Branford girls’ basketball squad lost a pair of home games last week and is now 1-7 on the year.

The Hornets hosted Hamden on Jan. 6 and took a 63-32 defeat versus the Green Dragons. Two days later, Branford went up against North Branford in a non-conference home game. The Hornets were edged out by the Thunderbirds by the final score of 54-53.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Branford-North Branford-East Haven (B-NB-EH) girls’ ice hockey squad played three games last week and came away with a tie to move to 2-6-1 this season.

On Jan. 8, the Wings played to a 3-3 draw with Wilton-Norwalk-McMahon at Patsy DiLungo Ice Rink. Two days later, the Wings were the road team when they faced off against Guilford at DiLungo Rink. B-NB-EH took a 6-1 loss against the Indians.

The very next day, the Wings hosted Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde and dropped a 3-2 decision.

Wrestling

The Hornets traveled to Middletown to square off against Xavier last week. Branford took a 47-18 defeat against the Falcons on Jan. 8.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

Branford competed in a pair of meets last week. The Hornets had an SCC Developmental meet on Jan. 6 and then were back on the track for the Yale Classic on Jan. 10.

Senior Rose Lockery ran a time of 8.04 in the 55 and timed in at 46.06 for the 300 at the SCC Developmental. Junior Noor Issa posted a time of 49.19 in the 300. Sophomore Julia Duffy finished at 1:52.92 in the 600, while senior Maya Kyriakides ran a time of 2:00.45. Junior Steph Toste finished with a mark of 6:28 in the 1,600. Branford’s 4x200 relay team of Julia Duffy, Issa, sophomore Katie Laska, and Lockery recorded a time of 1:56.52.

At the Yale Classic, sophomoe Bella Finta ran a time of 12:10 in the 3,200, and Toste finished in a time of 12:56.29. The Hornets’ 4x400 relay of Issa, Laska, Duffy, and Lockery clocked in with a time of 4:29.24.
