On Jan. 3, Daniel Hand’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams played home games against rival Guilford. The boys’ team earned a 63-52 win over Guilford, while the Hand girls’ team posted a 48-36 victory versus the Indians. In conjunction with these games, the booster programs for both teams joined forces to host a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Oncology Program at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven. The AYA Oncology Program is dedicated to teenage cancer-related issues. Guest speaker Lauren Telesz shared her personal experience with more than 1,000 people who gathered for both basketball games. The booster programs were pleased to raise $1,250 for the AYA program that night.
