North Haven Girls’ Hoops, Boys’ Hockey Begin with Wins

Girls’ Basketball

The North Haven girls’ basketball team opened up the 2019-’20 season by earning a road win versus Stratford last week. On Dec. 18, the Indians traveled to Stratford and notched a 49-18 victory in a non-conference game to start the season on a triumphant note. The win also marked North Haven’s first victory with new Head Coach Tom Blake, who begins his first year with the Indians this winter.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Indians’ boys’ ice hockey team hosted Lyman Hall/ Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug for its season opener on Dec. 18. North Haven edged out the Trojans by the final score of 3-2 in a close contest at Northford Ice Pavilion. The Indians enter their second campaign with Head Coach Chris Avena after going 4-14-2 last year.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Amity-North Haven-Cheshire (A-NH-C) girls’ ice hockey squad picked up a pair of wins last week to move to 3-1 on the season. The Blades have won three in a row after losing their season opener.

On Dec. 16, A-NH-C posted a 3-2 home win over Hamden-Wilbur Cross-Lyman Hall at Lou Astorino Ice Arena. The Blades trailed the Green Dragons 2-1 in the third period, but rallied for two goals to get the win. Caroline Cadelina scored two goals for the Blades, including the game-winner. Tess Csjeka scored the tying goal and assisted with Haley Cable on the winner.

Two days later, the Blades claimed a 7-3 road victory against Branford-North Branford-East Haven at Patsy DiLungo Ice Rink. A-NH-C scored four goals in the first period to take a 4-1 lead and never looked back in its win over the Wings. Cadelina scored two goals, Olivea Kosch had two goals with an assist, and Avery DePodesta contributed two assists to lead the Blades’ scoring attack.
