Morgan Girls’ Hoops Starts with a Split; Wrestling Takes Loss Versus Guilford

Girls’ Basketball

The Morgan girls’ basketball team opened its season with two games last week and came away with a win and a loss on the slate. The Huskies are 1-1 as they start their second campaign with Head Coach Caitlin Woods.

On Dec. 16, Morgan won a 34-32 road matchup in overtime against Old Lyme. Morgan jumped out to an early lead with a 10-5 edge in the first quarter, and increased that advantage to 22-16 by halftime. The Wildcats had a strong third quarter and took a 28-23 lead before heading into the final frame, and the Huskies came back to tie the game at 32-32 in the fourth quarter. In the overtime period, Morgan shut out Old Lyme 2-0, leading to the 34-32 victory.

Catie Donadio led the Huskies in scoring with 11 points along with nine rebounds, six assists, five steals, and a block. Alex Kelly had 10 boards, eight points, six blocks, and two steals, while Leah McComiskey had six points, eight boards, three steals, two blocks, and an assist. Caeley Ayer provided five points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals, and Katie Martin added seven rebounds and three steals.

Two days later, Morgan went to Deep River and lost a 44-32 contest against Valley Regional.

Wrestling

The Huskies competed against Guilford in a dual-meet last week. Morgan took a 67-9 loss against the Indians on the road on Dec. 18.

Louis Bradley claimed a 4-0 victory by decision the 138-pound division for Morgan. Luke Furches notched a pinfall victory in 59 seconds in the 152-pound division.
