Rome Places 5th in 500 Freestyle at State Open

Norah Rome finished off her sophomore season with the East Haven-Wilbur Cross girls’ swimming team by competing at the State Open Championship at Yale University on Nov. 24. Rome took fifth place in the 500 freestyle to score 24 points for the Yellowjackets and put them in 37th place out of 51 schools that were represented at the Open. It was the second-straight year that Rome swam on behalf of the Easties at the meet.

Rome recorded a time of 5:06.58 to finish in fifth place in the 500 freestyle at the State Open. She had previously won the event with a time of 5:09.58 at the SCC Championship and also placed ninth at the Class LL State Championship by swimming a time of 5:06.38.

Rome also qualified to compete in the 200 freestyle at the Open. Rome had finished third in the event at the SCC Championship with a 1:56.31 and then took sixth at the Class LL State Championship by posting a personal-best mark of 1:55.74.
