H-K Girls’ Swimming Competes in State Meet

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ swimming and team hit the water to compete at the Class S State Championship last week. The Cougars scored 108.5 points to finish in 16th place among the 25 clubs that participated in the meet at Southern Connecticut State University on Nov. 19.

Junior Nina Lamb turned in the best showing for H-K by taking seventh place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.43. Lamb also finished 18th for the 50 freestyle by swimming a time of 26.21.

H-K saw all three of its relay teams finish in 14th place at states. The Cougars’ 200 medley relay of junior Adelaide Hawkins, Nina Lamb, freshman Johanna Houska, and senior Tara Lamb recorded a time of 2:07.53; the 200 freestyle relay of Houska, Tara Lamb, freshman Erin Marica, and Nina Lamb finished with a 1:51.91; and the 400 freestyle relay featuring Houska, senior Grace Purcell, Marina, and Tara Lamb timed in at 4:16.45.

Marica also finished 24th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:01.79 for H-K. In the 100 backstroke, freshman Kristen Thebeau came in 24th place by posting a time of 1:12.86.
