Three Valley Teams Take Defeats in States


Boys’ Soccer

The Valley Regional boys’ soccer team finished its season last week after making its way to the Class M State Tournament. The Warriors lost a 2-1 first-round contest against Tolland on Nov. 11. With the defeat, Valley’s final overall record for the 2019 season ended up at 7-7-3.

On Nov. 11, the No. 23 seed Warriors headed to Tolland to take on the Eagles. Both teams played staunch defense in the first half, and the game remained a scoreless tie at the intermission. Senior goalkeeper Baron Schaefer was impressive on the day as Valley was out shot 8-2, but Schaefer managed to keep the score sheet clean.

In the second half, the Eagles were awarded a free direct kick that made it through to the side netting for a goal. Soon thereafter, Cameron Frazier scored an equalizer off a rebound that came out from the goalie to make it 1-1 in the 64th minute. Four minutes later, Tolland went ahead for good with a goal that led to the 2-1 final score.

Girls’ Soccer

The Valley Regional girls’ soccer squad was ousted from the Class M State Tournament last week after turning in a great performance in the Shoreline Conference Tournament final to end up runners up. Valley earned the No. 16 seed in the bracket and went up against No. 17 seed Oxford. In the second round, the Warriors lost to the top-seeded Granby squad.

On Nov. 12, Valley hosted Oxford and picked up a 4-0 win over the Wolverines. Two days later, Valley lost a 7-0 road match against Granby.

The Warriors finished the season with a final overall record of 11-6-3.

Field Hockey

The Warriors lost their first round contest against Canton last week to exit the Class S State Tournament. With the loss, Valley’s final record on the season moved to 10-8.

The Warriors entered the bracket as the No. 10 seed and went up against No. 7 seed Canton. Valley lost a 3-1 road contest against Canton with the Warriors’ lone goal coming from senior Ruby O’Lynnger.
