Old Saybrook Field Hockey Loses in State Tournament; Football Takes Defeat Against Valley-Old Lyme

Field Hockey

The Old Saybrook field hockey team opened play in the Class S State Tournament last week, but took a first round loss against Stonington to conclude its season. The 12th-seeded Rams lost a close 2-1 road contest against No. 5 seed Stonington on Nov. 12. The defeat puts Old Saybrook’s final overall record on the year at 8-9-1.

Football

The Old Saybrook-Westbrook football squad dropped a 35-12 road contest against Valley Regional-Old Lyme last week. The Rams’ defeat moved their record to 2-6 on the season.

The Warriors got on the board first with a touchdown pass and successful extra point to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Rams were able get the ball into the end zone thanks to a 4-yard run from quarterback Jack McDowell to make it 7-6 a minute into the second quarter. In a flurry of activity, the Warriors managed to put three more touchdowns on the board before the end of the half, and also were successful on all of their extra point attempts to bring the score to 28-6 at halftime.

Old Saybrook-Westbrook had another score late in the fourth quarter to make it 28-12, and the Valley put another score on the board and PAT to grow the lead to 35-12.

Next up, the Rams will travel to Granby High School, where they will play Granby-Canton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22.
