Valley Field Hockey Loses in Conference Semis; Boys’ Soccer Playing in States


Field Hockey

The Valley Regional field hockey team played a Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinal match against North Branford last week. The Warriors took a 3-1 loss against the Thunderbirds in the game.

On Nov. 4, Valley faced off with North Branford in the Shorelines semis at the Indian River Complex. The Warriors scored the first goal of the game after applying immense pressure on the Thunderbirds. North Branford scored the next three goals to get the 3-1 victory.

The Warriors opened play in the Class S State Tournament this week. Valley entered the bracket as the No. 10 seed and played a first-round contest versus No. 7 seed Canton on Nov. 12 (after press time). With a victory, the Warriors would play the winner of No. 2 seed North Branford and No. 15 seed Wamogo in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 14. The semifinals take place on either Tuesday, Nov. 19 or Wednesday, Nov. 20, and the championship match is at Wethersfield High School on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Boys’ Soccer

Valley is competing in the Class M State Tournament this week. The No. 23 seed Warriors opened tourney play with a first-round contest versus No. 10 seed Tolland on Nov. 11 (after press time). A win would move Valley into the second round to face the victor between No. 7 seed Abbott Tech and No. 26 seed Seymour on Nov. 13 (after press). The quarterfinals are on Friday, Nov. 15; the semis are slated for wither Monday, Nov. 18 or Tuesday, Nov. 19; and final is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23.

Football

The Valley Regional-Old Lyme football team was on the bye last week. Up next for the Warriors is a home contest against divisional rival Old Saybrook-Westbrook at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 15 at Valley Regional High School. The two teams enter the battle with identical overall records of 2-5 and are both 2-2 in Pequot Conference Sassacus Division action this season.
