Morgan Football Drops Contest to Coginchaug Co-op; Field Hockey, Girls’ Soccer Playing in States


Football

The Morgan football team lost a 32-14 contest against Pequot Conference Sassacus Division opponent Coginchaug/East Hampton/Hale-Ray (C/EH/H-R) last week. The defeat drops the Huskies’ record to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the division.

On Nov. 8, Morgan headed to Durham to take on the Blue Devils at Coginchaug High School. C/EH/H-R scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and held a 14-0 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Blue Devils scored two more touchdowns to increase their lead to 26-0. The Huskies scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 26-14, but C/EH/H-R recorded the last TD of the night for the 32-14 final.

Up next for the Huskies is home contest against divisional rival North Branford (5-2, 4-0) at the Peters Complex at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15.

Volleyball

Morgan played a Shoreline Conference Tournament quarterfinal matchup versus Coginchaug last week. On Nov. 5, the No. 7 seed Huskies went up against No. 2 seed Blue Devils in the quarterfinals and lost by a 3-1 score at Coginchaug High School. The defeat put the Huskies’ final record at 5-16 on the season.

Field Hockey

Morgan opened play in the Class S State Tournament this week. The Huskies entered the tourney with a record of 6-9-1 to earn the No. 14 seed. Morgan faced off against No. 3 seed Immaculate in the first round on Nov. 12 (after press time). A victory in that contest would pit the Huskies against the winner of No. 6 seed Northwest Catholic and No. 11 seed New Fairfield in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 14. The semifinals are on either Tuesday, Nov. 19 or Wednesday, Nov. 20. The state final will be played on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Wethersfield High School.

Girls’ Soccer

The Huskies are playing in the Class M State Tournament this week. Morgan (6-6-4) comes into the tournament as the No. 23 seed and went up against No. 10 seed Watertown in the fist round on Nov. 12 (after press time). A win in that game would move the Huskie s into the second round, where they would battle the winner of No. 7 seed Notre Dame-Fairfield or No. 26 seed Bacon Academy at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. The quarterfinals are slated for Saturday, Nov. 16; the semis will be on either Tuesday, Nov. 19 or Wednesday, Nov. 20; and the final is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23.
