East Haven Volleyball Loses in SCC Quarters, Ready for States; Girls’ Soccer Also Playing in States This Week

Volleyball

The East Haven volleyball team squared off against Guilford for the third time this season when the two teams met at the SCC Tournament quarterfinals on Nov. 11. The Yellowjackets took a 3-0 (25-14, 25-6, 25-17) defeat to the Indians and now get ready to play in states this week.

East Haven opened play in the Class L State Tournament as the No. 16 seed. The Yellowjackets played a first-round match versus No. 17 seed Mercy on Nov. 11 (after press time) at East Haven High School. If East Haven wins that match, it will face top-ranked Bristol Eastern in the second round at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. The quarterfinals are on Saturday, Nov. 16; the semis take place on Wednesday, Nov. 20; and the championship match is at East Haven High School at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Girls’ Soccer

The Yellowjackets are the No. 21 seed in the Class L State Tournament and began the draw by playing at No. 12 Woodstock in the first round on Nov. 12 (after press time). If East Haven (7-6-3) wins, it will play either No. 5 Mercy or No. 28 Bunnell in a second-round matchup on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16; the semifinals are on either Tuesday, Nov. 19 or Wednesday, Nov. 20; and the Class L final will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Football

East Haven was on the bye week last week. With their overall record of 5-2, the Yellowjackets will return to action on Friday, Nov. 15, when they will travel to Wallingford to face Lyman Hall for an SCC Tier 3 matchup at 6:30 p.m. The Trojans have a record of 4-3 and are 2-1 in SCC Tier 3 play. East Haven is in first place in the Tier 3 standings with its mark of 2-0 in the division. The Yellowjackets are also in the No. 15 spot in the Class M State Playoff rankings in which the top eight teams qualify.
