Old Saybrook Boys’ Soccer Reaches Conference Semis; Wiley Runs at State Open

Boys’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team finished off its regular-season slate last week and then followed that up by playing a Shoreline Conference Tournament quarterfinal matchup. The Rams grabbed a victory over Norwich Free Academy to complete their regular season with a 10-2-4 record. After that, Old Saybrook secured a Shoreline quarterfinal win against Cromwell to advance to the semis and improve to 11-2-4 overall.

On Oct. 30, the Rams traveled to Norwich and picked up a 3-0 victory of Norwich Free Academy in their regular-season finale.

Then on Nov. 3, No. 3 seed Old Saybrook earned a 1-0 home win over 6th-seeded Cromwell in the Shoreline quarterfinals. The victory advanced the Rams to face No. 2 seed Coginchaug in a semifinal match on Nov. 5 (after press time). A win against the Blue Devils would send Old Saybrook back to the Shoreline final to face the winner of No. 1 seed Morgan and No. 4 Portland on Friday, Nov. 8.

Girls’ Cross Country

Caitlyn Wiley competed on behalf of the Rams at the State Open Championship at Wickham Park on Nov. 1. Wiley turned in a time of 20:05 to take 29th place at the meet.

Wiley had advanced to the Open after she claimed third place with time of 20:05 at the Class S State Championship. Earlier in the postseason, Wiley came in third place with a time of 19:10 at the Shoreline Conference Championship meet.

Field Hockey

The Rams played a pair of contests to close out the regular season last week. Old Saybrook lost both decisions and ended up with a regular-season record of 8-7-1 on the year.

On Oct. 28, the Rams dropped a 2-0 road contest versus Westbrook. On Nov. 1, the Rams lost a 2-0 decision to Granby Memorial at home.

Old Saybrook is playing Westbrook in the Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinals this week. The No. 3 seed Rams faced the No. 2 seed Knights on Nov. 4 (after press time). A victory in that contest would advance Old Saybrook to the final to play the winner of No. 1 seed North Branford and No. 4 seed Valley Regional on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Indian River Complex.

After Shorelines, the Rams are playing in Class S State Tournament that begins on Monday, Nov. 11 and concludes with the final on Saturday, Nov. 23.
