Rams Run to Solid Showings at States; Field Hockey Sweeps Week

Girls’ Cross Country

The Old Saybrook girls’ cross country team took fifth place at the Class S State Championship meet at Wickham Park on Oct. 26. The Rams tallied 141 points to place behind fourth-place Derby at 110 points.

Caitlin Wiley turned claimed third place overall in the meet with a time of 20 minutes and five seconds. Grace Hanratty finished right behind Wiley in fourth place with a time of 20:14. Next for the Rams was Julia Sultini who took 29th with a time of 22:27, while Aliana Castro took 31st with a time of 22:36.

Lia Franciszkiewicz finished with a time of 25:34 and took 90th place.

Boys’ Cross Country

The Rams’ boys’ cross country squad came in eighth place in the Class SS State Championship meet on Oct. 26. Old Saybrook earned a grand total of 257 points and finished only slightly behind seventh-place Valley Regional’s 254 points.

Jacob Schneider had the Rams’ highest finish at 23rd with a time of 18 minutes and 20 seconds. Ian Mason came in 32nd with a time of 18:40, while Noah D’Ambrosie finished 65th with a time of 19:32.

Man Tran took 70th with his mark of 19:40, and Kyle Wisalowski was 75th at 19:46. Nate Taylor’s time of 19:57 put him in 24th place, and Zachary Nichols placed 97th with a time of 20:19.

Field Hockey

The Rams scored two wins in as many games last week. The victories moved Old Saybrook’s record to 8-5-1 on the season with just two games left on the slate.

On Oct. 21, Old Saybrook posted a 4-0 shutout victory over Haddam-Killingworth. Grace Adams scored a pair of goals for the Rams, while Kayla Holt and Taylor Stone each added goals of their own. Stone also provided three assists in the contest. Wendy Bowden stopped four shots in the cage.

Three days later, Old Saybrook stifled another offense when they took down Morgan in a 4-0 road match. Stone added a goal and an assist in the win, while Adams, Leah Wysocki, and Kaitlyn Chapps all scored single goals for the Rams. Holt also scored an assist. Bowden saved six shots on the night.

Boys’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team earned a single victory last week and played only one contest. After the undefeated week, the Rams’ record improved to 9-4-2 with just a single game left on the season. On Oct. 26, Old Saybrook grabbed a 3-0 road victory over Coginchaug.

Girls’ Soccer

The Rams played three games last week and came away with a pair of victories on the slate. With these results, Old Saybrook finished the regular season with a record of 5-10-1.

On Oct. 21, the Rams lost a close contest at home versus Coginchaug by a score of 3-2. Two days later, Old Saybrook hosted Amistad and scored a 5-0 victory. Then on Oct. 25, the Rams dropped a 1-0 home contest versus Portland.
