North Haven Fall Ball Completes Season with Doubleheader Sweep


The North Haven fall baseball team finished up the 2019 season by sweeping a doubleheader against East Haven on Oct. 20. North Haven also took an extra-inning loss versus the City Angels during the final week of its campaign. The team posted a record of 5-9-1 on the year.

North Haven dropped a 6-5 decision to the City Angels in nine innings on Oct. 19. North Haven held a 5-2 lead entering the top of the seventh inning, but the Angels rallied for three runs to tie the game and then scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth.

Anthony Acampora went 1-for-3 with two walks, a double, and two RBI for North Haven. Devin Santiago was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Shaun Murray went 1-for-3 with two walks, a double, and a run. Anthony Denya was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI, Derek Novicki went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run, and Alex Bauman went 1-for-3 with a walk, and a run.

The following day, North Haven swept a doubleheader from East Haven by winning the first game 10-0 and taking the second game by the final score of 10-8.

North Haven won the opener in five innings after the mercy rule was called into effect. Robert Farrelly pitched five shutout innings for North Haven to get the victory. Santiago had a big day at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and a pair of stolen bases. Denya went 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs, and an RBI; Bauman was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, and Novicki went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and two runs.

In the second game, North Haven scored seven runs in the first inning and then held off East Haven’s comeback bid to get the sweep. Chris Hager pitched 3.1 innings to get the win for North Haven. Santiago closed out the victory by tossing 3.2 scoreless innings of relief. Denya went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Santiago went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs, and Acampora was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run, and an RBI. Bauman went 1-for-4 with a double, a run, and two RBI; Farrelly was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run, Hager went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run, and an RBI; and Jason Senberg also went 1-for-4 to go with a walk, a run, and an RBI for North Haven.
