The Morgan boys’ soccer team picked up a pair of wins and a tie on last week’s slate. With these results the Huskies finished the regular season with a record of 12-2-2. Morgan finished in first place in the Shoreline Conference this season as well.
On Oct. 21, Morgan defeated Valley Regional at home by a 2-1 score. Morgan mounted a 2-0 first-half advantage before the Warriors trimmed the lead to one in the second half. Ultimately the Huskies came away with one-goal win.
Max Skidmore scored in the 29th minute on a Justin Castro assist. In the 40th minute, Sean Cafferty added a goal off an Alex Gallardo helper. Goalie Nick Rubino made three saves in net for the Huskies.
Two days later, the Huskies hit the road to play the Norwich Free Academy and came away with a 4-4 tie. Then on Oct. 25, Morgan earned a 3-2 home victory over East Lyme.
The win over Valley ensured that Morgan would at least take second place in the conference, but after Old Saybrook scored a 3-0 victory against Coginchaug on Oct. 26, Morgan took first place in the conference outright.
Girls’ Soccer
Morgan took a pair of defeats in last week’s action. The losses dropped the Huskies’ record to 6-6-3 on the season with one game remaining on the schedule.
On Oct. 22, the Huskies dropped a 4-1 road contest versus Valley Regional. The Warriors got off to a strong start with a pair of goals in the first half and led 2-0 by the intermission. Valley extended the lead to 3-0 before Carley Schmidt was able to cut the score to 3-1 off an assist from Alyssa Smith. Valley scored an additional goal after that to reach the 4-1 final. Natalie Novarro made five saves for the Huskies.
Two days later, Morgan lost a 3-1 road match against Haddam-Killingworth. The Cougars got out to a 2-0 lead at halftime, and that proved to be all they would need for the win. Maura Kelly picked up the Huskies lone goal to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute. Novarro made seven saves in net.
Football
The Huskies picked up their first win of the season with a 33-15 home victory over Cromwell-Portland on Oct. 26. The victory moved Morgan’s record to 1-4 on the season.
Up next, the Huskies will host Haddam-Killingworth at the Peters Complex on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
Field Hockey
The Huskies lost two decisions in as many contests last week. The defeats moved Morgan’s record to 6-8-1 on the season with a game remaining.
On Oct. 21, the Huskies dropped a 2-1 road contest against Westbrook. Three days later, Morgan hosted Old Saybrook and lost to the Rams by a score of 4-0.
Boys’ Cross Country
Competed at the Class SS State Championship meet at Wickham Park on Oct. 26. The Huskies earned 14th place by virtue of scoring 421 points.
Chase Lofgren had the fastest finish for the Huskies at 19 minutes and 23 seconds to take 58th place. Addison Auletta came in 88th with a time of 20:06, while Aiden Mualis came in 90th at 20:07. Carter Hyash had a time of 20:19, which put him in 98th place, and Jason Dombkowski was 105th with a time of 20:27. Benjamin Auletta came in 109th with a time of 20:39, and Lucas Morello had a mark of 21:05 for 119th.
Girls’ Cross Country
The Huskies sent a handful of athletes to compete at the Class S State meet, as well.
Leah McComiskey earned 111th place with a time of 27 minutes. Isabella Dowd placed 118th with a time of 27:34, while Heidi Gaudet came in 141st at 30:20.
