Field Hockey

The Westbrook field hockey team played three contests last week and earned a win and two ties against some formidable opponents. With these results the Knights’ record moved to 11-1-3 on the regular season.

On Oct. 21, the Knights earned a 2-1 home win over Morgan. Westbrook scored a pair of goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead, and Morgan was only able to draw the game closer to 2-1 in the second half before the Knights claimed the win. Westbrook fired 18 shots on goal and Lauren Horne made five saves on the night. Scoring for the Knights was Alex Young off a Cierra Brundage assist, and Lexi Koplas on an Olivia Hartzell helper.

Two days later, the Knights showed that North Branford was not invincible when they took a 2-2 tie at home off the Thunderbirds. The two goals by Westbrook marked the first goals that have been scored on North Branford all season long. The draw also ended a 13-game win streak by the Thunderbirds.

North Branford took a 2-0 lead first half, but the Knights were able to fight back for a pair of goals in the second frame. North Branford fired 17 shots while Westbrook put up 15.

Scoring for the Knights were Lexi Koplas and Bri Koplas, and both goals were assisted by Delaney Belcourt. Horne made 14 saves in the cage for the Knights.

On Oct. 25, Westbrook headed to Canton and the two teams played to a 1-1 draw. Westbrook got its goal from Alex Young off a helper from Hartzell. Horne tallied seven saves in the tie.

Boys’ Soccer

The Knights earned a split in two games on last week’s slate. With these results, Westbrook’s record moved to 4-9-1 on the season.

On Oct. 21, The Knights dropped a 5-1 road contest versus Portland. Then on Oct. 25, Westbrook picked up a 3-2 road win against Amistad.

Girls’ Soccer

The Knights played a single game last week and lost that contest. The defeat drops Westbrook’s record to 3-10 on the year with three games remaining to play. On Oct. 22, the Knights hosted Portland and lost a 4-0 contest versus the Highlanders.
