Valley Volleyball Notches Three Victories; Girls' Soccer Gets a Win and a Tie

Volleyball

The Valley Regional Volleyball squad earned three victories last week. The three wins improved the Warriors’ record to 6-9 on the season with five games left to play.

On Oct. 15, Head Coach Kathy Scott’s squad hosted Old Lyme and claimed a 3-0 victory against the Wildcats. Valley grabbed the first set by a 25-12 score, and then took a narrow 26-24 win in the secon set. In the third set, the Warriors scored the overall victory with a score of 25-18.

Jamie Pullin led the team with seven kills to go with six receptions, while Alena Crosby dished 22 assists along with five digs, three kills, and two aces. Carlee Kirla had four kills, seven digs, and an ace. Emma Counter supplied 12 receptions and 14 digs. Mahl Shah had three aces, while Madden Riley had a block.

The next day, the Warriors defeated North Branford by a score of 3-0 (25-16, 29-27, 25-20). Boyles scored 10 kills and 10 receptions, while Pullin notched eight kills. Counter had 24 receptions, 23 digs, and two aces. Shah scored three aces and 10 digs, and Crosby supplied 24 assists, a block, and a kill. Kirla added six kills and seven digs.

On Oct. 18, Valley earned a 3-1 (25-11, 25-14, 22-25, 25-11) home win versus East Hampton. Crosby provided 36 assists, eight aces, and seven digs, while Boyles scored 15 kills. Counter added 22 receptions, 18 digs, two kills, and an assist. Kirla notched 11 kills, sic aces, 10 digs, a block, and seven receptions. Madden Riley also supplied a block.

Girls’ Soccer

The Valley Regional girls’ soccer team played a pair of games last week and secured a win and a tie on the slate. With these results, the Warriors record moved to 7-3-3 as the regular season enters the final stretch.

On Oct. 15, the Warriors picked up an 8-3 road win versus Hale-Ray. Valley got a gigantic effort from Ava Duval who scored five goals in the contest. Also scoring goals in the contest were Sam Calamari and Sophie Surber.

Three days later, the Warriors played Old Saybrook to a 3-3 at home. Calamari scored an unassisted goal for Valley. Surber picked up a goal off a corner kick, and Caroline Baldwin also scored for the Warriors.

Field Hockey

The Warriors had a pair of contests on last week’s slate and came away with a split. On Oct. 15, Valley headed to Old Saybrook and claimed a 2-1 road victory over the Rams. Two days later, the Warriors hosted North Branford and took a 7-0 home defeat versus the Thunderbirds.

Football

The Valley Regional-Old Lyme football team were on the bye last week. Up next for the Warriors is a road contest at North Branford on Saturday, Oct. 26 at noon.
