Old Saybrook Girls’ Cross Country Takes 2nd at Shorelines; Boys Finish 5th

Girls’ Cross Country

The Old Saybrook girls’ cross country team earned second place as a team in the Shoreline Conference Championship meet at Cromwell High School on Oct. 18. The Rams’ overall score of 47 was just five points behind first-place Haddam-Killingworth’s score of 42 points.

Grace Hanratty took second place in with a time of 18 minutes and 57 seconds, while teammate Caitlin Wiley came in third place with a time of 19:10. In fourth place for Old Saybrook was Catherine Minegar at 19:16. Julia Sultini came in 18th place with a time of 21:06, and Aliana Castor placed 20th by clocking in at 21:11. Abby Colella’s time of 21:46 put her in 28th place, while Lia Franciszkiewicz came in 60th with a mark of 25:12.

Boys’ Cross Country

The Rams competed at the Shoreline Conference Championship meet at Cromwell High School on Oct. 18 and earned fifth place with a score of 152 points. Earning top finish on the boys’ side for Old Saybrook was Jacob Schneider with a time of 16 minutes and 51 seconds. Jack Wiley came in 16th place with a time of 17:07, while Ian Mason earned 22nd with a time of 17:45. Man Tran’s mark of 18:35 brought him to 44nd place, and Noah D’Ambrosi placed 48th at 18:52. Kyle Wisalowski clocked in at 18:58 for 52nd, and Nate Taylor came in 61st with a time of 19:35.

Boys’ Soccer

Old Saybrook played a three of games last week and earned a win and two ties in those contests to finish with four more points in the standings. The results brought the Rams’ overall record to 8-2-4 on the season with just two games to play.

On Oct. 14, Old Saybrook hosted Portland and grabbed a 3-0 shutout victory over the Highlanders. Three days later, the Rams played Valley Regional to a 3-3 tie at home. Then on Oct. 19, Old Saybrook headed to East Lyme and came away with a 1-1 tie.

Girls’ Soccer

The Rams played just a single game last week and came away with a tie to their credit. Old Saybrook’s record moved to 4-8-1 with the lone result on the slate.

On Oct. 18, the Rams headed to Deep River where they faced off against the Warriors. When the final whistle blew, both teams mustered three goals apiece for the 3-3 draw.

Football

The Old Saybrook-Westbrook (OS-W) football team lost to North Branford last week. The defeat drops the Rams record to 1-5 on the season.

On Oct. 19, OS-W headed to North Branford and took a 48-14 loss against the Thunderbirds. North Branford scored early and often against the Rams picking up a touchdown in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead. In the second, the Thunderbirds punched the ball into the end zone three times and took a 28-0 lead at halftime. The Rams would ultimately put touchdowns on the board in the third and fourth quarters to score 14 points thanks to two successful kicks through the uprights, but North Branford scored three more touchdowns to grow the lead in the second half to a 48-14 final.

Up next for OS-W will be a bye week. Then the Rams take on Cromwell-Portland at home on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.
