H-K’s Soccer Squads Shut Out Westbrook; Girls’ Volleyball Gets a Split

Girls’ Soccer

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ soccer squad posted a 5-0 shutout over Westbrook on Oct. 15. The Cougars improved to 9-3-1 on the season with the victory.

H-K held a 1-0 lead over Westbrook at halftime and then broke open the game by scoring four goals during the second half. Kedarjah Lewis scored two goals for H-K, while Leah Sosnowski, Yumi Imai, and Hadley Commerford netted one goal apiece. Commerford also had an assist in the victory, as did Morgan Madore, Morgan Schultz, and Autumn Walton. Kelsey Lonergan made seven saves to get the shutout in net.

Boys’ Soccer

The Cougars picked up their second win of the season with a 2-0 victory versus Westbrook on Oct. 15. H-K went on to take a 4-3 loss to Cromwell to move to 2-10 this year.

Girls’ Volleyball

H-K split a pair of matches last week and now stands at 9-7 on the campaign. On Oct. 15, the Cougars were edged out by Coginchaug by the final score of 3-2. Three days later, H-K bounced back with a 3-0 win against Old Lyme.

Field Hockey

H-K took defeats against Westbrook and Mercy in last week’s action. The Cougars dropped a 4-0 decision to Westbrook on Oct. 15 and then took a 1-0 defeat to Mercy on Oct. 18. H-K has a record of 0-9-1 this season.

Football

The Cougars were on the bye week last week. With its record of 0-5, H-K will swing back into action when it hosts Coginchaug/Hale-Ray/East Hampton at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.
