Westbrook Field Hockey Posts a Pair of Shutouts; Soccer Squads Take Defeats

Field Hockey

The Westbrook field hockey squad notched two more victories last week to boost its record to 8-1-1 on the season. The Knights posted a 9-0 shutout over Somers and then defeated Valley Regional by 1-0 final later in the week.

Westbrook started off its week by earning a 9-0 victory at Somers in a non-conference game on Oct. 7. The Knights scored three goals in the first half and six goals during the second half on their way to the convincing win.

Senior Lexi Koplas had three goals and two assists for Westbrook. Senior Alex Young posted two goals with two assists, and fellow senior Kendall Orlowski handed out three assists in the victory. Senior Olivia Hartzell had a goal and an assist, while junior Megan Greaves, junior Marguerite Bartlett, and freshman Delaney Belcourt added one goal apiece for Head Coach Janet Dickey’s club. Westbrook took 20 shots on goal and held Somers without a shot on net in the game as junior goalie Lauren Horne got the shutout.

Koplas scored the first goal of the game on an assist from Orlowski, after which Young netted an unassisted goal to give Westbrook a 2-0 lead. Greaves then scored from Koplas to give the Knights a 3-0 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Young scored a goal from Koplas and then assisted Bartlett for a goal to increase the lead to 5-0. Hartzell scored her goal on an assist by Orlowski, followed by a Koplas goal from Hartzell to make it 7-0. Belcourt scored from Young, and then Koplas finished off the victory by posting her third goal of the game on Orlowski’s third helper of the game.

Then on Oct. 11, Westbrook hosted Shoreline Conference opponent Valley Regional and claimed a 1-0 win versus the Warriors. Greaves netted the only goal of the game on an assist from Orlowski during the first half for the Knights. Horne made one save to post another shutout in goal.

Boys’ Soccer

Westbrook lost a pair of contests at home last week to move to 2-6-1 this season.

On Oct. 7, the Knights hosted Old Lyme and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Wildcats. Then on Oct. 11, Westbrook took a 5-1 home loss against Cromwell.

Girls’ Soccer

The Knights took two defeats in the road in recent action and are now 3-7 on the year.

On Oct. 11, Westbrook lost by a 4-0 score in a game at Old Lyme. The next day, the Knights were back on the road to face Cromwell and took a 4-0 loss versus the Panthers.
